Kirkley & Pakefield FC club notes

WITH the weather being the solitary winner again last weekend, most games fell foul of the conditions on Saturday - with the first team's trip to Histon Reserves aborted, while the youth teams games on Sunday were all cancelled.

The reserves took centre stage at Walmer Road last Saturday, and drew 0-0 with sixth-placed Hindringham. James Hutchinson's side still remain in second place in Anglian Combination division one, in what is turning out to be a tight league.

The A and B teams also managed to play in the midst of downpours, but they slipped to defeats away and at home respectively.

There was better news in midweek though, as both the K&P first team and U18 youth team returned to action - and both sides delivered excellent wins.

Penalty king keeper Robert Woodcock converted from the spot once more in the final five minutes to seal a fine 2-1 win over Haverhill, with Liam Harvey-Cooper earlier equalising.

Graham Bunning's U18 youth team were also victorious in Ridgeons Youth Cup first round, as they best Diss Town 6-0 away.

Tomorrow kickstarts a run of four home matches in the league and cup for K&P at Walmer Road in the space of just 14 days.

Stewart Larter and Jon Reynolds men entertain Mildenhall tomorrow in the league, in a game sponsored by new matchday sponsors Jewsons.

'Please come along and support our team as we enter the final push in our top of the table challenge this year!' a club spokesman said.

All paths lead to Walmer Road again next Wednesday, March 10 with the prize of a cup final at Portman Road at stake. K&P clash with Needham Market in the Suffolk Premier Cup semi final, kick off 7.45pm, with the victors likely to take on Ipswich Town Reserves in the final - provided they overcome Bury Town.

Off the field, the club's popular end of season sportsmans evening with Neil Razor Ruddock the guest, has already sold out its 33-table allocation.

'I am holding a cancellation list for those who have not booked, so please ring Dave Woodruff on 01502 741588,' Royal David said.

K&P will be holding a pre match meal on Saturday, March 27 ahead of the encounter with Stanway at Walmer Road. Tickets will be 15 per head, and sponsors and supporters are most welcome, with a maximum of 60 in attendance.

Telephone Keith on 01502 582551, or Mr Woodruff on 01502 741588.

On Bank Holiday Monday, May 3 K&P's end of season League cup final match at Diss FC will be played.

'We are considering organising a breakfast brunch at 11am, with a coach laid on for the return trip to Diss FC and the cup final,' the club spokesman said. 'At this stage, if you would be interested, please ring the above with numbers - estimated cost is 19 per head all in, again, for sponsors and supporters.'

And with the World Cup, drawing ever nearer - it is now less than 100 days to go to kick off - the K&P spokesman said: 'All World Cup games will be shown live at Walmer Road, with drink and food offers for each game.'
