An under-strength, youthful looking Kirkley & Pakefield had the daunting task of travelling to play championship chasing Felixstowe & Walton, who were unchanged and fresh from their 6-0 midweek win over Gorleston.

The Royals were missing three regular defenders in Lewis Flower, Jack Herbert, Elloit Whiteside plus midfielder Miguel Lopez, and slid to their seventh successive away defeat.

The home team started at a blistering attacking pace and in the first few minutes had five good efforts on goal that were stubbornly kept out by keeper Luis Tibbles and his make-shift defence.

The Seasiders went ahead in the 16th minute through centre forward Craig Jennings at his third attempt after Tibbles and Grint had pulled out wonder blocks.

On 20 minutes play was held up as a thumping tackle caused the only regular defender Tarren Grint to have extensive treatment before being replaced by Elliott Patrick. The Royals had some good spells of play, with a Stone shot blocked and the rebound being put just over by Patrick. King then went close after two consecutive corners.

The second half was barely a minute old when Jennings added his second goal with a well hit shot from the left across Tibbles into the far corner while on 63 minutes Clarke missed a sitter for the Seasiders.

The Royals were still giving a spirited display but on 72 minutes substitute Tom Winter’s shot was saved by Tibbles but the same player followed up to make it 3-0.

Kirkley & Pakefield: L Tibbles, T Grint, M Holt, J Smith, L Hammond, C Eagleton, K Haylock, J Haverson, N Stone, R King, L Will. Subs all used: E Patrick, M Tacon, N Woods.

On Saturday Kirkley & Pakefield will be looking to improve on their dismal run of results in the Thurlow Nunn League when they travel to play Haverhill Rovers (3pm).

A much weakened Royals Reserves had their relegation to Anglian Combination Division One sealed with a 7-1 loss to champions-elect and league leaders Spixworth in a rearranged league match (Connor Borrett). On Saturday the visitors to Walmer Road are St Andrews (2.30). Kirkley & Pakefield B play their last game of the season on Saturday on the 3G Arena at Walmer Road with Spexhall Reserves the visitors (2pm).
