INTERNATIONAL recording artist, pianist and singer, the legendary Buddy Greco is to return to Lowestoft's Marina Theatre next month marking his 60th year of performances before UK audiences.

One of the world's most prominent musicians, he will be accompanied by Lezlie Anders and the Buddy Greco Trio on the tour which is playing just a handful of UK dates.

His first appearance in the UK was as a young singer/pianist with the Benny Goodman Band. The London Palladium in 1949 still bore the scars of artillery shelling from the war when the young man from South Philly made his UK debut. Since then he has appeared in every great venue throughout the world.

Three of his 69 albums were recorded live in the UK and Buddy says they are among his best. In 1963 he appeared at the Royal Albert Hall for a special Royal Command Performance - and shared the bill with The Beatles.

He is at the Marina on July 6.

Meanwhile, today the theatre is screening Star Trek XI (12A) which stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg and chronicles the early days of James T Kirk and his fellow crew members on board the USS Enterprise.

On Sunday is the eagerly awaited climax in the search for this year's Journal Carnival Queen.

While Ben Affleck, Russell Crowe and Rachel McAdams star in the critically acclaimed film State of Play (12A) on Tuesday.

Next Friday, July 3, the Marina's resident orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic presents a rare chance to enjoy some of the most famous music from Hollywood's golden age. Conducted by Nick Davies the evening features works by Cole Porter, Rogers and Hammerstein, Irving Berlin and Lerner and Loewe.

Looking ahead Sunday, July 5, sees a sell out performance by Michael McIntyre. In preparation for his 30 date UK arena tour this autumn, the comedian warms up at the Marina. His date in Lowestoft broke all box office records as the fastest selling show in the theatres history.

During July the theatre also hosts the national touring production of the hit musical Singin' In The Rain.
