MILESTONES Jazz Club kicks off its 2009 season of concerts this Sunday> with a forward-looking, genre-skipping group of London's most exciting young musicians - The Barry Green Quartet.
Barry Green is a young pianist whose mercurial touch has become a dynamic presence on the UK jazz scene in recent years. Together with Mark Hanslip, Oli Hayhurst and Tim Giles, his band focuses mainly on his own evocative compositions, which are influenced and inspired by Sam Rivers, Andrew Hill, Shirley Horn, Joe Henderson and the American author Raymond Carver.
The quartet's ability to shift from all-out swing to deep blues to darker contemporary hues has been honed playing around London for the last few years and they are now embarking on their first national tour.
Although made-up of young musicians the band's collective CV already boasts being part of the influential Loop and F-ire> collectives as well as touring extensively throughout Europe, the US and even West Africa.
The concert is part of the quartet's national tour, supported by Jazz Services. It is held at the Hotel Hatfield, in Esplanade, Lowestoft, at 8pm on Sunday. Admission is 7 and 6 for concessions.
