AN Irish singer who shot to fame in a popular BBC show calls into the Seagull Theatre tomorrow night for her only East Anglian date.

Jessie Buckley came second in the 2008 series I'd Do Anything, which saw Andrew Lloyd Webber search for a new Nancy in a stage revival of the British musical Oliver!

Now, the talented performer is forging a career as a jazz singer and, in a coup for the Pakefield theatre, will be bringing her show to the Seagull stage.

'It's a real coup for the theatre,' said theatre manager John Hales. 'Jessie is a superb performer in her own right and has been making a real name for herself on the jazz circuit, recently headlining the Pizza In The Park festival in London and getting rave reviews.'

Accompanied by her pianist Joe Thompson, Jessie will be singing her unique interpretations of the classics of the American Songbook with the highs and lows of love as her main theme.

Jessie said: ''I'm thrilled to be bringing my American Songbook show to the Seagull Theatre. I've been developing this show after the past year in collaboration with my musical director and it's been an amazing adventure absorbing this wonderful material and putting my stamp on it. To bring it to wonderful intimate venues like the Seagull is a thrill.'

Jessie will also be holding a short question and answer session after the performance for fans to learn of what's happened for her since the BBC show and what her future plans are.

Other shows at the Seagull over the next seven days include a funny accordionist, smugglers and a birthday party.

On Sunday, accordionist Nigel "Boy" Syer and Karen Carpenter inspired singer Lisa Marie will return to the Seagull after a successful visit last year.

On Thursday local storyteller Andy Jennings will present Smugglers Tales - true stories of smugglers in the region that thrill and surprise.

Next Friday, SM Productions present The Birthday Party, the first full-length play by Nobel Prize winning playwright Harold Pinter.
