LIVE entertainment returns to Lowestoft's Marina Theatre this month as the venue welcomes a varied line up with something for all the family to enjoy.

Local dance school First Steps begin the month of entertainment tonight with a special evening held in aid of local charities. The school, directed by Shirley Hurren, will showcase their skills tonight at 7.30pm and tomorrow at 2.30pm.

Next Friday sees the opening Gala performance of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's fourth year of residency. The orchestra, which features soloist Nicola Loud and is conducted by Grzegorz Nowak, will play a programme including Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, Brahms Violin Concerto and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3.

On Saturday February 9 the sound of music will again light up the Edwardian venue as the 40th anniversary of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra is marked with a special conducted by Chris Dean

The concert will feature some of the most famous music from the swing era as the sounds of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald are relived.

Comic actor Damian Williams returns to the Marina later in the month as part of Tom, Dick and Harry. The Cooney farce sees Damian star alongside Andrew Lynford, Nick Wilton and Lynette McMorrough in a hilarious tale of mayhem.

Performances will be nightly at 7.30pm from Thursday, February 14 to Saturday, February 16.

From Monday, February 18 the Marina will present eight performances of the classic musical Half A Sixpence. The Bill Kenwright Ltd production will be the largest musical production to be staged in the town and stars theatre favourite Gary Wilmot.

The rags to riches story with a twist features a fantastic company of actors, singers and musicians and includes classic hit songs Flash, Bang Wallop, If the Rains Got to Fall and the title song.

Performances will run nightly at 7.30pm until Saturday, February 23 and there will be a special 2.30pm matinee on the Wednesday and Saturday.

Singer songwriter Charlie Landsborough is set to perform on Thursday, February 28 and Abba tribute Bjorn Again will complete the month of entertainment on February 29.

In addition to the return of live entertainment this month also sees the Marina Youth Theatre's popular West End Workshop and a selection of films on the theatre's big screen.

The Marina Youth Theatre's workshop, which returns on Monday, February 11, is a special half-term event aimed at musical children between the ages of 8 - 16.

Meanwhile, the theatre's winter film season continues as Enchanted (PG) is screened tomorrow at 7.30pm and at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Sunday. The Darjeeling Limited (15) will be screened this Tuesday at 2.30pm and 7.30pm, while Thriller Into The Wild (15) is screening at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday.

Other films set to appear at the Marina this month include St Trinians (12A) and The Kite Runner (12A).
