RAIN is forecast in the east next summer, but that's good news for Lowestoft as Singin' in the Rain is coming to town!

The hit musical will play in July and August thanks to a coup for the Marina Theatre.

Singin' in the Rain features a host of much-loved comedy routines, dance numbers and songs.

A national touring production will play a two-week season at the Marina from July 21, and the Marina has secured the only date across the east of England.

Olivier award-winning West End and Broadway star Tim Flavin, pictured, will lead the cast as Don Lockwood in the role immortalised on the silver screen by Gene Kelly.

Tim's previous credits include 42nd Street, My One and Only and Crazy For You (both Olivier Award nominated) as well as Kiss Me Kate, White Christmas and Chicago.

Produced by the team behind hit shows such as Disney's Beauty and the Beast, the new production features a host of hit songs, including Good Morning, Make 'Em Laugh, Moses Supposes, You Were Meant For Me and, of course, the most famous song and dance number of all time, Singin' in the Rain.

Theatre manager Martin Halliday said: “I am delighted to confirm this fantastic news. The entire team at the Marina are delighted that we have secured this terrific production for the region.”

Stephen Ardley, portfolio holder for operations and facilities at Waveney District Council, added: “In recent years we have seen some of the most amazing productions staged at the Marina, and news of this latest coup is certain to maintain the high

calibre of theatrical productions we have come to expect.

“I am certain that Singin' In The Rain will prove an enormous hit with the public and people from across the district will be delighted with this truly wonderful news.”

Staging a major touring musical during the summer is likely to attract many thousands of people into the town, many of whom may be visiting for the first time, so the knock-on effect for town centre business looks to be extremely encouraging in these challenging times.

Emma Jones, town centre manager said: “Once again the Marina has pulled off the near impossible. To have such a major production coming into the town during the summer will without doubt add enormously to the line-up of summer activities and draw crowds from across the region and beyond”.
