Jazz flautist to appear in Lowestoft

Jazz flautist Gareth Lockrane will be performing at the Milestones Jazz Club at the Hotel Hatfield in Lowestoft on Sunday night.

The gig will see Gareth joined by the Chris Ingham Trio with Chris Ingham on piano, Ivars Galenieks on double bass and Russell Morgan on drums.

Gareth started playing the flute at the age of 10 and he went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London and on the Lake Placid Jazz Course in New York with Joe Lovano. Gareth was also a finalist in the Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition in 2000.

His latest CD, 2012’s The Strut, was voted Jazz Album of the Year by the music magazine Mojo.

His musical style embraces a wide range including fast-bop, the mid-1960s work of Miles Davis and swing.

Gareth has also taught at the Royal Academy of Music, the Guildhall School of music and Drama, Trinity College of Music and the Yehudi Menuhin School.

Doors open on Sunday night for Gareth’s gig at the Hotel Hatfield on the Esplanade at 8pm.

Admission is £7 and £6 with concessions.

The Milestones Jazz Club takes place in a basement room at the Hotel Hatfield that requires the use of stairs.
