LOWESTOFT actress Lauren Baker has landed the lead role in a major production of the musical and disco revival show Disco Inferno.

LOWESTOFT actress Lauren Baker has landed the lead role in a major production of the musical and disco revival show Disco Inferno.

The 19-year-old, a former pupil of Kirkley High School, starts her three night run as Jane next Thursday at Great Yarmouth's Hippodrome.

The show, which features 30 of the biggest hits of the 1970s, is the big end-of-year production for performing arts students at Great Yarmouth College.

Lauren is in her third and final year at the college after completing a BTEC first diploma in performing arts and now a two-year national diploma.

Her acting, singing and dancing talent has shone throughout her time and she was an obvious choice for the lead role of Jane in auditions.

She now faces the unusual challenge of performing in a theatre “in the round”.

Unlike usual stages where actors play to audiences in front of them, the Hippodrome is a circus ring making a circular stage with the audience surrounding the action. This throws up unique issues for actors who have to play to 360 degrees.

She is also preparing to perform in front of the creator of the original show, Jai Sepple, who wrote, directed and played the lead in the first show in Essex and will be in the audience for the students' final night and has written a piece for the show's programme.

Lauren also took centre stage in an outdoor performance to promote the show in the centre of Norwich when she sang a duet of You To Me Are Everything with her co-star Luke Boydell outside The Forum as part of the Big Skill event.

Thirty of the decade's greatest sounds feature in the show: Night to Remember, Celebration, I Will Survive, Hot Stuff, Street Life, Boogie Nights and Blame it on the Boogie.

The cast is hoping their audiences will dress up in the fashions of the times and Lauren hopes people from her home town will travel to Great Yarmouth to support her and her friends.

Disco Inferno is the follow-up to the college's first big show at the Hippodrome last year We Will Rock You winning standing ovations from its audiences.

Disco Inferno runs nightly from Thursday to Saturday, June 19 to June 21, at 7.30pm, and tickets are available from the Hippodrome box office on 01493 844172.
