NEXT month some of the country's biggest variety stars arrive in Lowestoft as part of a national tour and for one star in particular it is a welcome return.

The Best of British Variety Tour 2008 is playing at some of the UK's top venues throughout August and September including the Opera House at Blackpool, the Pavilion Theatre at Bournemouth, and the Royal Concert Hall at Nottingham.

However, the second date of the tour on Friday, August 8, at the Marina Theatre, Lowestoft.

The show's line-up reads like a who's who of popular stage and television stars and includes Cannon and Ball, Paul Daniels, Frank Carson, Jimmy Cricket, Brotherhood of Man and The Krankies.

For magician Paul Daniels it is a quick return to Lowestoft as he starred in the 2006 Christmas production Scrooge at the Marina Theatre.

“I am looking forward to the whole tour but I was especially pleased to see we are appearing at Lowestoft,” he told the Journal.

“It is a cool place. When I was younger I spent many happy times at Lowestoft and I also really enjoyed my time as Scrooge at the Marina Theatre,” said Paul.

This time he will not be acting a role but appearing as himself with his popular mix of comedy and magic.

“I was playing the part of Scrooge when I was last at Lowestoft but this time there will be no acting. It will simply be me doing what I do,” he said.

With such a long list of star acts there is no top-of-the-bill performer as they have all appeared at top venues in this country and across the world.

“We all really get on well together and I am sure this will come across to the audiences on the tour.

“I have known some of the other acts for quite some time as we have met at various charity functions over the years,” said Paul.

Compere for the show is Frank Carson who is known for his quickfire gags.

“Frank has already been on the telephone playing practical jokes on us so we all know what to expect,” said Paul.

The Marina Theatre is one of the smallest venues that the show will be visiting and promises to provide a more intimate atmosphere than some of the larger venues.

“The Marina is such a beautiful theatre to play and I will certainly be letting everyone on the show know that this is going to be one of the highlights of the tour,” said Paul.

Tickets for the Best of British Variety Tour 2008 show at the Marina Theatre, Lowestoft, on Friday, August 8, are selling well. There are a few left and more details are available from the Box Office on 01502 533200.
