LOWESTOFT'S Marina Theatre is to screen special previews of a major new film release as part of the celebrations to mark 21 years since it reopened as a civic theatre and cinema.

Next Wednesday and Thursday the venue will screen Dorian Gray (15) joining major cinemas across the country in the new film's nationwide release.

Starring Colin Firth and Ben Barnes, Dorian Gray is based upon the classic novel by Oscar Wilde and tells the story of a strikingly beautiful young man named Dorian (Ben Barnes). He arrives in Victorian London and is swept into a social whirlwind by the charismatic Henry Wotton (Colin Firth), who introduces Dorian to the hedonistic pleasures of the city.

When a portrait of Dorian is unveiled, such is its beauty that he makes a pledge: he would give anything to stay as he is in the picture - even his soul.

A spokesperson for the Marina said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have secured this exclusive preview for the town as part of our 21st anniversary celebrations. Film remains very much at the heart of our programme with a number of other major film and live events to be announced soon. ”

The special screenings are taking place at 7.30pm on Wednesday and Thursday, with a special matinee at 2.30pm on Thursday, and tickets can be booked in advance or bought on the door.

Meanwhile, showing at Hollywood Cinema, in London Road South, Lowestoft, is District 9 (15) and Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (PG).

District 9 (15) is a science fiction tale that sets a story in which aliens that are stranded on Earth are segregated from human society in District 9, South Africa. Twenty-eight years later the worldwide wait for alien technology has proved fruitless, but one man finds himself caught in the middle when an accident mutates his DNA. Now he is able to use the alien technology, everybody is looking for him and District 9 could become the perfect hiding place.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (PG) continues the adventures of everybody's favourite mammoth, sabre-tooth tiger and sloth. Manny and Diego find themselves trying to rescue Sid the Sloth from a hidden lost world in which Dinosaurs still reign supreme.
