LOWESTOFT'S Marina Theatre has announced it has scheduled even more screenings of the hit Abba musical Mamma Mia as unprecedented demand for seats has seen the venue continue to smash all previous box office records.

Over 12,000 people have seen the film at the Marina since it began a few weeks ago, initially just for a seven day run, and management at the venue have announced that in addition to even more extra screenings, a special fancy dress competition is to be held to mark the final showing on September 20.

Marina manager, Martin Halliday told The Journal: “We have been delighted with the response to the film with over 12,000 people attending screenings so far, many coming along more than once.

“As we enter our September programme we have been able to schedule a few extra performances, both during the afternoon and evening and our final showing on September 20 promises a fantastic party atmosphere including a special fancy dress competition with some spectacular prizes.”

Meryl Streep leads an all-star cast in the musical which brings the timeless lyrics and melodies of iconic super group Abba to the big screen. Inspired by the storytelling magic of Abba's songs from Dancing Queen and SOS to Money, Money, Money and Take A Chance On Me.

Extra screenings, for which bookings are now being

taken, include matinees at 2.30pm on September 1, 9, 10 and 16, and at 4pm on September 7 and 14, with extra evening screenings at 7.30pm on September 7, 9, 10, 14 and 16, culminating in a special final screening on September 20, at 8pm, at which a competition will be held for the best Abba fancy dress. Supported by The Journal the final evening kicks off with doors open at 7pm, the fancy dress judging at 7.30pm and the main feature at 8pm.

As with all Marina films admission costs £2.50 for over 60s and children with full price tickets at £3.50.
