Marina puts on variety of entertainment

LOWESTOFT Marina Theatre residents the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra present their spring concert tonight>.

Conductor Christopher Warren Green and soloist Sara Beth Briggs lead the orchestra in a programme that includes Shubert's Symphony No.8 Unfinished, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.3 and Dvorak's Symphony No.7.

Tomorrow night Barbara Dickson returns to the Marina with her 40th anniversary concert tour. The multi-million selling recording artist and Olivier award-winning actress will be singing tracks from her new album Time and Tide, together with a number of her greatest hits and well-known numbers from stage musicals.

This weekend also sees the return of popular act Forever In Blue Jeans. Their new presentation Jump and Jive is full of singing, dancing and comedy impressions, and will be performed on Sunday.

There will be an opportunity to see the stars of tomorrow on Tuesday as Schools Swing provides a unique opportunity for Lowestoft school children to experience professional theatre. Those taking part will be showcasing their musical and artistic talent from 5pm and 7.30pm.

From Thursday major international opera comes to the Marina as the Ukrainian National Opera of Odessa perform. On Thursday they will perform Puccini's Madama Butterfly. It tells the heart-breaking story of a beautiful young Japanese girl who falls in love with an American naval lieutenant with dramatic results.

The next day they will perform Verdi's La Traviata, a tragic tale of searing passion and memorable music, at the theatre.

Later in the month The Louise Elizabeth School of Dancers will be performing An Evening of Dance featuring Coppelia.
