FOLLOWING last Saturday's final performance of The King and I, plans are already well under way for the Lowestoft Players next production, Beauty and the Beast.

Earlier this year the Lowestoft Players agreed to vacate their usual Christmas slot in order to allow a professional panto to perform at the Marina Theatre.

And Beauty and the Beast will be playing at the Marina Theatre for a total of nine performances, including four matinees from Saturday, January 24 to Sunday, February 1.

The Players' publicity officer Stephen Wilson told the Journal: “The Players will still be performing their annual pantomime and the extra wait will be well worth it.”

Stephen, who is also co-directing Beauty and the Beast along with Shirley Hurren added: “The Players latest version of this fairy tale classic features all the traditional panto ingredients, including a pantomime dame, zany comedy characters, a wicked sorceress, a good fairy, great music, amazing costumes and spectacular scenery.

“The plot also boasts a messy slapstick scene in the form of a gunge tank, a high speed crazy castle ride, a giant Indian Jones-type ultra violet scene, and a unique black theatre illusion scene - several firsts for the Players.

“In fact in true Players tradition all the ingredients will still be there. And more, to guarantee a spellbinding post Christmas treat.”

With over 40 years of home-grown pantomime experience and the excellent reputation gained from their past musical productions, Beauty and the Beast promises to take you on a breathtaking, roller-coaster ride of fun and enchantment.

The Players will be holding auditions for their latest pantomime next weekend at their Stradbroke Road headquarters and they are looking for new members to join the cast.

An audition workshop for chorus/dancers will held on Friday, October 10, at 7.30pm and auditions for a singing chorus and all principal characters will be on Sunday, October 12 from 9.30am onwards.

Further information and audition pieces are available from Louise Connolly on 01502 538105.

Tickets for Beauty and the Beast are now on sale at the theatre box office on 01502 533200.
