A BITTERSWEET comic story kicks off a busy weekend of performances at the Seagull Theatre in Pakefield.

Tonight Sister Triona recounts the story of a modern emancipated woman forsaking her life as a theatrical agent and exploring life as a nun.

Triona Adams presents Nun the Wiser, the true story of her year in an enclosed Benedictine order, from 7.30pm.

For a complete contrast, tomorrow night sees the talented young cast of Roughcast theatre company present, 'Tis a pity she's a whore. This is a new adaptation of John Ford's tale of teenage love, revenge and tragedy, and connects with both adults and a younger audience.

On Sunday the 65th anniversary of VE day is marked with Plexious Productions' show Songs of Victory.

The show pays a tribute to the popular songs of the time, as well as sketches and poems that played a big part in keeping up the morale of those serving abroad, and everyone at home. It will be presented at 3.30pm and 7.30pm, with 10pc of ticket sales donated to the Help for Heroes charity.

Next week, The Quaysiders will present their latest offering, The Haunted Through Lounge and Recessed Dining Nook at Farndale Castle. The theatre company is one of six to have found a home at the Seagull, and will be performing the David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin comedy on stage from Thursday until Saturday, May 15.

The play, within a play, has all the elements of a traditional farce including falling scenery, troublesome sound effects and a poetry competition in the middle.
