FANS of the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein are in for a real treat when South Pacific, the latest musical from the Lowestoft Players, takes to the stage at the Marina Theatre.

South Pacific features arguably one of the best musical scores ever written for a musical and includes a succession of well known hit songs. Out of 15 songs 12 have become major hits around the world, including Some Enchanted Evening, There is Nothing Like a Dame, I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair, Younger Than Springtime, Happy Talk and This Nearly Was Mine.

This is the second time that the Players have presented South Pacific, their previous production was presented back in 1994 to high acclaim. This latest production features a brand new stage set and an all new cast led by Lorraine Major as Ensign Nellie Forbush and Chris Moore as Emile de Becque.

South Pacific is now just over 60 years old, originally erupting onto the Broadway stage back in 1949. Over the years it has become one of the greatest musical entertainments of all time, winning numerous prestigious awards. Last year a brand new revival of the show has once again taken Broadway by storm.

The story is both an exhilarating and romantic one and deals with the dramas of the American Marines on an island in the South Pacific during the Second World War. Central to this is the love story of a native French planter, a widower with two Polynesian children and an American nurse from Little Rock, who is unable to accept the colour of his children.

South Pacific opens for a six performance run at the Marina Theatre from Tuesday, May 18 to Saturday, May 22, nightly at 7.30pm with a special 2.30pm matinee on Saturday, May 22.

Tickets can be booked at the theatre box office on 01502 533200.
