A HOST of top comedians and comedy events are heading east this year to Lowestoft's Marina Theatre.

First up on Tuesday and Wednesday is Menopause The Musical, a celebration of women and the change starring former Bucks Fizz member Cheryl Baker and Allo Allo! favourite Sue Hodge.

On Sunday, June 21, Jim Davidson brings his outrageous and controversial new show, On The Offensive to the theatre. The charismatic comedian, founder of the British Forces Foundation, premiered his side-splitting, no holds barred, x-rated show this year at one of his legendary performances entertaining British troops on active service overseas.

Sunday, July 5, sees a sell out performance by Michael McIntyre. In preparation for his 30-date UK arena tour this autumn, the comedy sensation of 2009 warms up with a performance at the Marina. Michael's date in Lowestoft broke all box office records as the fastest selling show in the theatres history.

On September 4 a more traditional line up features in the Best of British Variety Tour with last year's headliners Cannon and Ball joined on stage by Faith Brown, Tom O'Connor, Norman Collier and Roger De Corcey and Nookie Bear.

Dave Gorman stops off on his Sit Down, Pedal, Pedal, Stop and Stand Up tour on September 8. This tour will see the comedian covering the extremes of the British mainland as he travels from to the southernmost point to the northernmost tip, taking in the most easterly and westerly points along the way.

Pam Ayres returns on September 28 with her current show which includes material from her best-selling books, "Surgically Enhanced", "With These Hands", and "The Works", along with some new poems and stories.

One of the top new stand up comedians, Rhod Gilbert brings his unique brand of humour on October 12 in The Cat That Looked Like Nicholas Lyndhurst and Des O'Connor appears on October 16.

Others lined up include Damian Williams, in the farce Who Goes Bare, from October 22, and My Dog's Got No Nose from November 19. November also brings Joe Pasquale, Kevin Bloody Wilson and Stephen K Amos.

Tonight the Marina screens Shifty (15), tomorrow it hosts a special evening in aid of the Lowestoft and District Mencap Society as Lord Brian Rix tells of his distinguished 30 year stage career, while on Thursday it screens Genova (15).
