THE UpStAiRs Gallery in Beccles is set to unveil its January feature exhibition tonight with a fundraising launch party.
From 7 - 10.30pm the breast castings of the Boudica Within - Elaine Sassoon will be on display to guests at the gallery on Exchange Square, while money is raised for the Reconstruction Fund.
The life casts by Michelle Payne were taken from the women featured in Ms Sassoon's book. Michelle had previously cast one of Elaine's patients, and after the patient had spoken about how positive the art made her feel, Elaine asked Michelle to make 23 casts in under one month. Usually one cast is created and refined in three weeks, making an epic task for the artist.
Amongst the life castings, which were all created at the gallery, is the wall of women. The wall, which represents the challenges Elaine had to overcome to complete the project, consists of 15 castings in cream and ivory, which are all different yet bound together by the choices they have made.
Also currently on display at the UpStAiRs gallery is the renew exhibition. It focuses on renewing studios, spaces and homes, with artists sold last exhibition including Sue Scheller, Gill Riordan and Lynsey Adams.
February's feature exhibition is set to be Molly Quorn, with Figures in the Landscape, while other future displays this year include Waveney Revels Student Show, Norfolk and Suffolk artists and a Summer County Show.
