A pensioner has resumed his one-man protest against a telecoms firm which wants to build a 50-foot 5G mast on a grass verge next to his house.

Michael Garman, 69, says he is the owner of a patch of land outside his house on the corner of Carlton Road and Kirkley Park Road in Lowestoft.

Last month the work was put on hold after Mr Garman parked his motorhome on the site and refused to budge.

But on Sunday (November 19), workers returned to the site and erected a fence around the grass verge.

"They turned up on Sunday morning when I was out walking the dog," Mr Garman said.

"When I got home I spoke to the security guard standing there and I said this is my land and I'm going to park my motorhome on it.

"He didn't argue with me and I lifted the fence and moved my motorhome onto the land."

Mr Garman said he is meeting with his barrister on Wednesday to discuss the matter and until then he is not allowing the workers to start putting up the mast.

"I'm sitting in my motorhome with the heating on, the radio on, looking out at them.

"I'll stay here overnight if I have to," he added.

The retired plumber insists he owns the 130ft by 30ft patch of grass where the mast was set to be installed by Cignal Infrastructure Limited.

In March, East Suffolk Council gave permission to the company to install a 15m mast on the site to provide 3G, 4G and 5G to the area.

A spokesperson said the council sent a letter to all households in the immediate area, including Mr Garman's house, and that a site notice was put up on January 13, advertising that an application had been submitted and inviting comment.
