A 100-year-old from Lowestoft who loves belting out 80s chart hits has celebrated her birthday with a card from the King and songs.

Mary Baldry received more than 50 birthday cards at the Dell Care Home on Sunday.

Mrs Baldry, who had lived in Briarwood Road and worked at a canning factory, is well known for her love of 1980s chart hits as she used to love watching Top of the Pops.

She starts belting out her favourite tunes when her children Sandie and Darryl and daughter-in-law Sue Baldry start singing them.

Hits she loves singing include Karma Chameleon by Boy George's Culture Club, Meat Loaf's I'd Do Anything for Love and Shout by Tears for Fears.

Her daughter-in-law said: "Mary is good at remembering 80s songs when we start off the singing.

"She had a great 100th birthday with a lovely cake and singer Mister John the Music Man which all the residents enjoyed.

"She was especially pleased with her card from the King which made her total of birthday cards received to over 50."

Mrs Baldry was born on November 12 1923 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire to parents Alfred and Mary Cart.

She was sister to Joe, Ernie, Elsie, Bill, Ted, Sid, Frank and Albert.

During the war she met Maurice Baldry while doing war work and they married in 1944.

After the war they moved to Lowestoft living with Mr Baldry's parents for a few years.

She worked for a canning factory until she had their two children Sandie and Darryl.

After living in the family home for over 70 years, Mrs Baldry moved to the Dell Care Home over a year ago and has enjoyed making new friends and doing lots of activities, especially painting, jigsaws and bingo. 

She also likes the times when singers come in to entertain them.
